Grain qualifies Canada and herself for the 2008 Olympics Games!!!!

March 20th, 2008- Webcors 1st 2008 Olympian...
I am very happy to announce that Gina Grain has officially secured herself a
spot in the Olympic Points Race on the track in Bejing. She is Webcor's first
Olympian of 2008!

Track cycling has become a winter sport in recent years, and while most road
racers were enjoying their off season this winter, Gina was on a global UCI
points chase on the velodromes of the world that took her to Australia, Europe,
China and North America. She had the dual task of both qualifying Canada as a
country in the Points Race, and also qualifying herself. The final selection
race was the track World Championships in Manchester where she raced only days
before Redlands.

With the immediate pressure of her own selection over, Gina can now focus on
helping her Webcor teammates qualify for the Olympic Road Race in the upcoming
races we will do in Europe.

March 14th, 2008- Grain returns home from Holland to recover after a heavy schedule comes to and end. After Gina qualified Canada for the 2008 Beijing Olympics on the track, she headed directly to her road bike to assist her team in the victory of the 2008 Redlands Classic. From there, her and 4 other Canadians headed overseas (again for Grain) to Holland where they tackled the cobblestones and wind of the spring classic Ronde Van Drenthe World Cup. After battling a cold all week and recovering through racing and an overseas flight, Gina was fit to race the World Cup. Unfortunately for Grain, the cobblestones got the best of her and along with over 75 of 140 starters she didn't finish the race with the lead group. With high hopes of finishing well for Canada, Grain had to just rack it up in the book of experience and carry on.

March 5-8, 2008- Webcor sweeps podium at teams' debut to this seasons' north american racing. An unprecedented number of winners jerseys' were awarded to Alex Wrubleski of Webcor after her and her team defended and inched each second to be victorious in the overall General Classification, Sprinters' jersey, Climbers' jersey and Womens' prestige sprinters, climbers and overall jersey. Pretty good start to the season??

Alex, there is no other jersey to wear!! You have won all of them!!! Congratulations TEAM WEBCOR!!!!

World Championships Update...Manchester, England- 7 days to go!!!! Gina has been in Manchester since Tuesday getting over jet lag and spinning out the legs. Gina had a bit of a setback upon her arrival. After a spin session on the rollers and an easy yoga session, the next day brought pain to the ribs and back that made the day untrainable. Though, thanks to speedy recovery, and a smart recovery day, she was able to have her first hard motopace training session today. Fighting through some bearable pain, her coach was happy with her form and confident for the world championships. For Grain it will be a matter of putting everything together on race day.

World Championships Points Race: March 29th, 2008

UP NEXT: Grain heads to Manchester, England for a short training camp before the final Olympic qualifying event: The UCI Track Cycling World Championships, March 27-30th.

2007/08 Canadian National Road Champion Gina Grain starts the 2008 season with her new road team: WEBCOR BUILDERS.....the.#1 ranked team in north America. Grain, joining her other teammates of whom also have many national and world class medals kicks off the season with her team winning the first round of the womens road world cup and a 9th place for Grain in Geelong, Australia.

GRAIN UP AGAINST A TOUGH BATTLE.

Following the second to last stage in the Tour of New Zealand, Grain was taken out in a field sprint with 800m to go and crashed, with the entire 100women peloton behind her. With a broken helmet, a shattered bike frame and a bruised and broken body, Gina rolled across the line on a spare bike and spare helmet to finish the race. Returning to California to begin the healing process, she was taken care of by her team WEBCOR and returned to Canada to heal. After a week of recovery and treatments the show must go on, and she is now on her way to Manchester to overcome the pain and train for the World Championships.

World Cup #3- L.A., California Dec. 18-20th

Grain goes into the 3rd round of the UCI World Cup Series ranked #6 in the world for the points race and 3rd in the Scratch Race on uci points.

The Bay Crit Series- Melbourne, Australia are touted at The Fastest Criterium series in the world. Gina joined the Volvo composite team as a worker for local rider Belinda Goss to win the overall series. After 5 consecutive days of 1hr blazing fast criteriums in the blistering hot heat of southern australia's summer the team came 1 point shy of winning the overall title.

Tasmanian Winter Track Carnivals- Christmas came in a different form this year for Grain, as she flew to Tasmania from Melbourne on Christmas day to attend the Tasmanian winter track carnivals. From Dec 26-Dec. 30th Grain took to the outdoor track to continue her strength/power build up to the next world cup.

World Cup #2- Beijing, China- Grain gets Canada a 4th place finish in the scratch race!!

Points Race: Grain 2nd in qualifier, got crashed in final...ending up 16th in

World Cup #1- Sydney, Australia- Grain 9th (Scratch Race) in record number of World Class competitors.

Day2- Women's Points Race Qualifyers: The points race qualifyers proved to be equally if not more heated than the scratch race qualifyers. For Grain, although she gave everything she had to be within the top 8 in the qualfyers, Grain plus 37 more riders were sitting in the stands watching the finals. It once again proved to be a technical and aggressive race with decisions on the fly being the crucial component to whether you scored points in the 4 sprints in the qualifyer. The thrill of victory and the tears of defeat. The tears of defeat are hard to take when so much is at stake. It was only until Grains' coach tapped her on the shoulder and pointed to the current world points race champion who was in tears after the event. Not to mention other world cup medallists and previous world champions who did not make it into the finals. This was a good reminder that every race cannot be perfect, and, at this level, you have to be close to perfect, with strokes of luck to score. The important thing is to keep the chin high and move on to the next event. For Grain, she gave everything she had. Now is time to reflect, learn, and move on.

Day1- Women's Scratch Race: For the first time in world cup history 3 heats were required in order to skim the field down to 23 riders (250m velodrome maximum). Over 55 world class women held onto the rail over the 3 heats, including multi-World Champions, Olympians and World Cup/World Championships Medallists. In order to make it through to the finals, you had to be top 8 in the qualifiers...10 of each heat didn't make it through to the finals. For Gina's heat it was a tactical and technical battle where nerves were high as it was the first heat. She qualified in 6th position, moving her onto the finals 2hrs later. Gina was one of only two North Americans to make it through to the finals.

Women's Scratch Race Final: The fastest 23women took to the line for the final of the evening. Blazing speeds matched the numerous attacks throughout the 10km. 40 laps equals about 15min of racing. Grain bridged up to a Nederlands, toting a girl from Hong Kong and one other. They were away for a few laps before being brought back by the eventual scratch race winners teammate. For Grain not having any teammates in the field, she fought her way through the attacks and the final sprint ended up in 9th position.

GINA GRAIN CAPTURES THE 2007 CANADIAN NATIONAL ROAD CHAMPION TITLE!!

July 10th, 2007- Grain wins first Canadian road race title
Gina Grain of Vancouver won the women's elite road race on Tuesday at the Tim Hortons Road Nationals held at St-George de Beauce. It was a first career road title for the track specialist. Grain won the 127 kilometre race in three hours and 42 minutes and 24 seconds. Marni Hambleton was three seconds back for the silver and Moriah MacGregor third, nine seconds behind the winner.

...your new 2007 Canadian National Road Champion!!!

HAPPY CANADA DAY VANCOUVER!

July 1st, 2007- Gina celebrates with the rest of Vancouver to win the 4th Annual Yaletown Grandprix. With huge crowds and festivities all around, the technical course of downtown Yaletown bid well for the seasoned criterium racer. With no other teammates in the race, Gina had her legs and hands full when the decisive break went in the race containing 3 Team Giant riders, 2 Symmetrics riders and herself. After covering endless attacks that were launched by the other teams, Grain tested the course, the riders and her sprint in a few primes to gain confidence in knowing what it took to win the bike race. And that she did- single-handedly blasting through the last corner to take the win.
