April 1, 2007 (Palma, Mallorca, Spain)- Canada's Gina Grain 9th in Points Race at 2007 Track Worlds provided by the CCA...more

Canada's Gina Grain finished a disappointing ninth in the women's points race on the final day of the track cycling world championships today.
Grain scored points in three out of 10 intermediate sprints, but it was not enough to challenge for a podium place. Kathy Bates of Australia was the winner, ahead of Lakota Mie Bekker (NED) and Catherine Cheatley (NZ).
"I missed the break," said Grain. The three medalists, along with Mexico's Belem Guerrero Mendez, broke away and lapped the field at half distance, locking up the top four spots in the race.
"I've been focusing on developing my tactical awareness, and I think I did a good job of positioning myself for the sprints," said Grain, who will compete next at the Pan American championship in May.
