Mirroring the start list for the Geelong Tour, the first round of the Women's Road World Cup saw the same riders plus a few line up at the start line in Geelong. The circuit was 15km which the riders rode 8 times, totalling 114km. Each lap consisted of a climb of about 700m long rising 50m. With parked cars, road obstacles and wind along the waterfront the riders who managed to escape crashing made a significant attempt to break up the field at 3 and 2 to go. By the last lap the field had been whittled down, the pace was high up the climb, but a field sprint was again in place for the crit style finish. With 2 tight corners at 500m to go Ina Teutenberg took the first world cup win, with Miho Oki 2nd and Kate Bates 3rd. I was a hair behind in 6th. Off to Sydney now for the last leg of the Track World Cup series. Currently I am ranked second in the world in the scratch race. I hope to take over the lead going into the World Championships!!!!! |
