LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!

Last night marked the official opening of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. Although the track athletes were unable to attend the Opening Ceremonies, we held our own ceremony in the village. All dressed up in our opening parade uniforms, we marched as a team with flags held high into the International Zone to join other athletes from the 71 Nations to watch the festivities in unison on a large screen TV. Flags, lounge chairs, blankets, team spirit and unity were the feel of the evening as we all screamed when each of our Nations entered the stadium. With the Queen’s final words declaring the Games “now open”, it couldn’t have been a better start to the next 11 days of competition.

Behind us is the "Canada Tree", where the roots of the tree represent our sponsors who are the key element of making all this happen. Without the roots, the tree doesn't grow.

"Don't be afraid to go out on a limb, for that is where the fruit is."
